New Zealand Pocket Watches – Gallery

Here is a sample of a broad range of pocket watches with a New Zealand inscription on the enamelled dial or back plate of the movement. The earliest New Zealand watch that Terry can specifically date is a sterling silver hunter watch with a hallmark dating to 1866, engraved with “A. Myers Princes St., Dunedin.”

Most of these displayed are jewellery and watch retailers, however some merchant companies, like Aitken and Roberts Ltd, Christchurch, also have their own customised watches. Interestingly there is a “Pakeha” watch dial.

I have also included the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Watch, as on the back of it is inscribed, “Commemorating the visit of her Majesty QEII New Zealand 1953-54”.
